Senior Advisor, NSTDA, and former Co-Director

DR CHATRI SRIPAIPAN

Dr. Chatri Sripaipan is an electrical engineer with extensive experience in three broad areas--academic, public sector research, and private sector consultancy and advisory.  He has obtained a unique perspective on development and business issues through his wide-ranging experience and exposure to academia, industry and government agencies both in Thailand and in the international science and technology policy community.

After graduation with a B.E. in electrical engineering from the University of Sydney in 1966, Dr. Sripaipan worked as an engineer for two and a half years in Australia while finishing his Master’s degree from the University of New South Wales, also in electrical engineering.  He started his teaching career at Chulalongkorn University in 1969.  In 1976, he obtained a Ph.D. in electrical engineering from the University of Hawaii, USA and became an Associate professor in 1985.  When Chulalongkorn University founded Chula Unisearch as a business-oriented commercialization unit in 1986 to promote linkages with industry, he was appointed as the first director.  After three years at Chula Unisearch, Dr Sripaipan was invited to join the Thailand Development Research Institute (TDRI) as the Director of the Science and Technology Development Program, which he developed and ran for over four years.  He returned to Chulalongkorn University in 1993 and served as Head of the Department of Electrical Engineering between 1995 and 1997.  He resigned from Chulalongkorn University as Co-Director of the APEC Center for Technology Foresight (APEC CTF) at the National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA). In August 2000, he was promoted to be the Vice-President of NSTDA, supervising APEC CTF and the Science, Technology and Innovation Policy Research Department.
